Are engines cheaper than a new car itself?

If you buy a car and it eventually dies after tons of miles why do people buy new cars instead of a new engine?

If engines cost the same as a new car then I would understand.

Well, you see there are many parts of a car that get damaged and worn out. Not just the engine!

If all you had to do was replace your engine and the car would keep working, then we'd all have a lot more cash in out pocket!
