We've been able to design steam engines for trains and water craft, but why have we had so much trouble designing a good automobile engine that runs on water?

Steam engines have been used in cars. They lost out to gasoline and electric cars(there were electric cars back in the early 1900's.) because of several key design problems. Steam engines are heavy. It takes time for the boiler to build up enough steam
